As a 24 year old female Muslim South African, coming from a predominantly Muslim community, art is not something commonly explored within my surrounding environment. Completing 12 years in an Islamic institution art was seen as just a hobby for older women to occupy themselves within the confines of their homes. I was always drawn towards the arts with the curiosity of creating more than just pretty pictures from the age of 14. This journey often invites scrutiny from my elders, family, friends and community. I am currently freelance Visual Artist based in Johannesburg.
